How Live Rewind Keeps Your Audio Private
The privacy story is the most interesting part. According to Apple, Live Rewind creates no audio file at all: the watch processes speech on-device and discards the original sound the moment a transcript exists. That design also stops Apple itself from touching the raw audio, and the resulting text never tags individual speakers — a deliberate contrast with dedicated AI wearables that keep permanent recordings. Saved transcripts and recaps sync across your devices through iCloud, encrypted end-to-end so the notes stay readable only on your own hardware.
Siri Recap: A Running Summary of Your Day
Beyond single moments, Siri Recap quietly summarises longer stretches of conversation. The finished recap deliberately leaves out verbatim transcripts, storing only structured notes, and wearers can leave Audio Intelligence running all day, trigger it manually, or restrict it to specific places via a schedule or a Control Centre toggle. A separate Sound Recognition mode also listens for sirens, doorbells, alarms and crying babies, alerting wearers who are deaf or hard of hearing even without a nearby iPhone.
Availability and Compatibility
Both features need Siri AI on a paired iPhone, and Apple plans a beta later this year in English first, with more languages following as Siri AI reaches a wider iPhone rollout. For now the capabilities are tied to the Series 12 and Ultra 4 — Apple has not promised older Apple Watch models will get them once Siri AI lands on iPhone.
