Windows 11 is about to feel quicker. At IFA 2026, a top Microsoft executive confirmed that the team is reworking how fast Windows 11 boots and how quickly you can sign in \u2014 a shift in priority that could benefit millions of PCs, especially cheaper models with limited memory.<\/p>\n

Faster boot times are in the works<\/h2>\n

Mark Linton, Vice President of Windows & Devices at Microsoft, told Windows Latest that the company has already achieved “significant gains” on boot time and Windows Hello responsiveness. Importantly, those improvements are still confined to internal builds. Windows Insiders have not yet received them, and Microsoft has offered no public release date. That leaves open the question of exactly when mainstream users will notice a difference \u2014 but the intent is clear.<\/p>\n

A snappier Windows Hello sign-in<\/h2>\n

Windows Hello is Microsoft’s biometric authentication system, most often facial recognition through a compatible infrared webcam. Faster responsiveness here means less time staring at the lock screen before you reach your desktop. It is the kind of change that is difficult to measure on a spec sheet yet immediately obvious in daily use. If Microsoft delivers, signing into a Windows 11 PC should feel less like a pause and more like a tap.<\/p>\n

Optimising for 8GB RAM laptops<\/h2>\n

Perhaps the most practical angle is memory. Component prices have pushed 8GB configurations back into the mainstream, and Microsoft says it is explicitly tuning Windows 11 so that “8 gig of RAM runs great.” Some of this optimisation is already reaching users through a CPU-boosting option called Low Latency Profile, which is part of a wider effort to make menus and apps launch more eagerly. Linton summed up the philosophy plainly: “We’re continuing to improve on the fundamentals.”<\/p>\n

What buyers should expect<\/h2>\n

There is a catch worth noting. Microsoft has not attached numbers to any of these claims, so it is impossible to say whether the speed-up will be dramatic or merely marginal. The work also signals a broader change in tone \u2014 Microsoft appears more interested in making Windows 11 feel faster than in simply adding more to it.<\/p>\n

For now, the faster Windows 11 experience remains a promise rather than a shipped feature. But the direction is encouraging. Anyone who has watched a budget laptop grind through startup will welcome a focus on the basics, and 8GB machines stand to gain the most.<\/p>\n
